Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen and I'm planning to study in US for my undergrad. But considering that US medical schools are pretty expensive and more competitive, I'm thinking of going back to Canada for med school after my undergrad. Is it true that an US bachelor degree looks more appealing on the med school application? Or is it better for me to just stay in Canada for undergrad? I got accepted on both sides: UCLA and University of Toronto.

I have heard that Canadian medical schools can be tougher to get in than American medical schools.

I think that may just be because Canada doesn't have nearly as many med schools compared to the US, so there are fewer spots to begin with (rumor has it that some schools will be adding more seats in the coming years to deal with doctor shortages though, so that'll be good news!)

One thing you might want to consider is provincial residency status, as from my research, that seems to be quite important in many Canadian med schools. For instance, if you attend undergrad at UBC, you can be considered a BC resident for the purpose of med school admissions. I don't know if UT has the same policy though with respect to Ontario residency.

I'm sort of in the same position as you, although I'm definitely headed to the US for undergrad (since I was accepted ED, can't exactly back out :P) If finances are an issue, perhaps stay in Canada, because med school isn't cheap either (although Canadian med schools are a lot less expensive than US schools)
