Any Canadians thinking about going to US for undergrad pre-med?

Would you go to the US over Canada for pre-med? Why?

I'm not going into Med (am from toronto)...but i dont see a reason, because in the med route, undergrad hardly matters. And in the US it cost sooooo much more Also, in a way, where you go for grad school hardly matters too if you ultimately just want to practice medicine. No patient will ever turn you away if you didnt go to Havard Med School :P

bumpbumpbump

well said a-bomb.
ask yourself this: when you go to a doctor, do you ask him/her where he/she graduated from? If your doctor didn't graduate from Harvard, Pton or Stanford, would you go find someone else to fix up your gun-wound? I think not!
it's all the same for meds, for business it maybe different, but med US=med Canada
pre-Med US=pre-Med+$$$$$$$$$$$+international status+terrorist bombing+bush+lots of people+more competitive studying environment+$0 fin.aid

anyone else?

bump

But I was thinking, don't medical schools take into consideration the university where u graduated from for premed? Do u think the better ur undergrad university, the better are ur chances of getting accepted into medical school?

nabiilah: to some extent, yes, they may take into consideration where you graduated from. however, I believe GPA and your MCAT scores are more important. your experience (like working at a hospital, etc) will also carry alot of weight.
this is why some people do not recommend going to Johns Hopkins if you want to go to med school. the competition there is so cut-throat for pre-meds and the grading there is tough.
on the other hand, i
m sure you
ve never heard of Austin College in Texas. it isn`t a very well known school, but most of the students there are pre-med, and many students get accepted to med school.
therefore, going to unknow school= does not mean you cant get into med school. however, it never hurts.

so what are some colleges with good pre-med programs in canada...?

Any Canadians here who have gone to US for pre-med?
