Pre-Med in South America

Hey guys quick question. My girlfriend is a Pre-Med student at St. John's University. She plans to go to Medical School in about 3 years, however she doesn't want to go to school in the U.S because in her words, "Long and Hard."

She says that Medical School here in the U.S takes around 15 years to complete as opposed to 4 years in some country in South America. I feel like she is making a mistake being that 4 yours compared to 15 is a major difference and I'm sure there is reason for such a long time in Medical School.

I just want to know if a medical degree in South America applies in the U.S and if it is worth it for her to make such a major decision. I honestly feel like she is making a huge mistake and is just taking the easy way out.

Some answers please!

Someone else may be able to confirm this, but I’ve heard that medical schools in the caribbean & latin america that advertise a much shorter medical program generally aren’t that reputable. And usually if people who graduate from those universities won’t be able to get residency again in the US if they want to come back & practice medicine in the states (it’s already really really tough for international students to come to the US to practice medicine).
If she thinks that 15 yrs is too long & hard, then obviously she doesn’t love it or want it bad enough anyway
