How is it? In terms of competition, ect. Is it ridiculous in CHEM-117 where just about everyone got 5s on the AP Chemistry exam, or are there generally a few average joes who bump up everyones grade on the curve. I plan on attending IU next year and I havent really seen any threads about pre-med at IU. I know about med-school, pre-reqs, MCAT, acceptance rates/%s, etc- anyone who has went through/going through/knows someone going through it and opinons on it would be appreciated. I also saw in the description "biochemical". Uhm.. in AP we hardly touch biochem, at least to my knowledge. And our AP teacher says we use the same text (just the AP edition) as general chem classes at IU and Butler (she teaches some classes there I guess). Just saw "biochem" in description and it intimidated me. Any knowledge on that would also be appreciated..

A lot of people come into IU pre-med and a lot of people are weeded out - mostly through the introductory biology class (L112) and chemistry (C117) and especially in organic chemistry. Not everyone in C117 is ridiculously smart - a lot of people just had one year of general chemistry in high school and are doing fine. It’s the kind of class that’s a lot of work, but if you understand everything, you’ll do fine. There are definitely a ton of people that bring down the curve - like I said, tons of people come into IU pre-med, so many of them don’t do so well in this class. When they mention “biochem” in the description, don’t worry! It’s just general chemistry. IU does have a biochem major that does a lot more with this topic, if you’re interested.

It’s not easy get to med school, but it’s definitely possible at IU!

Hope that helped!
