I was admitted to both Lehigh and Pitt. Lehigh would cost 57K a year while Pitt would cost 45K a year.

Lehigh is more prestigious but Pitt has better research? Also, location wise, Lehigh is 1hr away from Philadelphia and 2hrs away from New York City. Lehigh also has its own medical research center located near the campus. (Not as big at Pitt).

Overall, which college would I be able to make the best grades at? I know Pitt has a large population of freshman wanting to do pre-med while Lehigh has a significantly smaller amount.

Also, if this helps, I plan on majoring in economics or finance at either school. (while completing the pre-med requirements).

What is plan B? You need a choice that cost a lot less than those 2 for sure. You need to save that money for medical school because you will definitely need it.

Both are way too costly for UG.
On the other hand, choose what you personally prefer. It is extremely important.
Third comment, you got to like location and be comfortable with the student body. Why I am saying that? Simply because my own D. acknowledged the fact that Pitt. Med. School is highly ranked…and withdrew from there after an interview, she did not feel comfy there.
Visit several times, stay overnight, talk to current students, walk the campus, visit dorms, check pre-med committee, ask yourself if you are personally comfortable there…and forget at this point about Medical School,…it may or may not happen, way too early to use as criteria. You are talking about 4 very important years of your life, make sure you fully understand this and respect yourself, all your personal goals, desires, academic and otherwise the most. You are at the steering wheel right now, do not let others to steer you in a wrong direction.

Right now, you’re not a strong prospective premed student. What is your back-up career?

Probably something in business. I am currently accepted to Clemson, Indiana University, Pittsburgh, and Lehigh (switched to regular). All those schools listed did not give me any merit scholarships

It doesn’t look as if you have a strong foundation, especially for taking tough tests like the MCAT. Your hs gpa also isn’t terribly impressive. See how you like pre-med classes, but expect that that path won’t be easy. Since your intended major is economics, Lehigh has an excellent reputation for that. You’ll need to be great in math. Since tuition costs are just a portion of the overall COA, be careful and go for lower costs if you can.

I go to an extremely competitive school which is why my unweighted gpa is so low. Due to all of my AP credits I qualify as a sophomore. Some of those credits can be used to get out of the intro pre med classes (bio 101, physics 101). Is it a good idea to start over or use those credits?

The bigger problem that I see is your ACT score. That doesn’t bode well for the MCAT. You’re not a strong test taker. The reason you didn’t get any merit from your schools is because your ACT is very average for those schools and they only give to those who have scores that are high.

You definitely should start over with the premed prereqs; don’t use the AP credits except for Bio II (and replace that with a higher level bio w/ lab).

can’t tell you what to do, both schools are equal in educational quality. If you want smaller class, goto Lehigh. But the following stats shows that VERY FEW Econ majors took MCAT and even less got into med school

You should test the water of a Pre-med track in your first year of school, you might find it not as profitable as if you become a Econ/Business Major. That is my opinion, you may differ.

In 2013, 84% of Lehigh Econ/Business graduates was employeed vs only 51% from CAS. So, apparently Econ/Business students are more inclined to earn money right out of gate instead of chasing those illusive MD positions with uncertainty and facing $400K immediate expenses.

To get into med school, your CGPA and SGPA must be very high and the MCAT must be decent. With that criteria, most Econ/Business majors can get 6 figure salary after graduation, very very few would pursue a medical education.
