Hi there. I am considering between two offers that I have short-listed, at Wesleyan and Rochester. The latter has the option of a BS in Biomedical Engineering (BME), with pre-med courses, while the former has a combination of courses for pre-med. Any advice from any CC members knowledgeable on pursuit of medical school options? Specifically, would a BME with pre-med be particularly helpful in getting into a good medical school, in comparison with a good LAC/pre-med program? Thank you very much.
undergrad gpa is one of the most important factors for medical school admissions. That said, an engineering major like BME might make it more difficult to maintain a higher gpa in than a non-engineering major so if your goal is med school, you might want to keep that in mind. Major will be considered in the admissions process, but being a BME major wouldn’t really confer a significant advantage. Both schools should be fine for your goals so imagine what kind of environment you would thrive in better.
