Pre med programs in the US

I am an international student. I have a GPA of 4.0 and an IELTS total score of 6.5. My ACT exam will be in this oct. I want to join the medical school in the US specifically a specialty in Neurosurgery. I know some of you might think it is too early to be so determined but plz answer my question : What are the best pre med programs that will qualify me to Neurosurgery and offer scholarships for the international students ?

There are a LOT of very good premed programs in the US. At this point you don’t need to worry about neurosurgery, you need to worry about which of the several hundred schools with very strong premed programs would be affordable. Very few universities in the US are going offer significant financial aid to international students, and those that do are mostly the very selective “tippy top, hard to get into” schools which are a reach for everyone. It is not obvious to me that undergrad in the US is the most pragmatic way to do this unless you are either a very strong student (one of the very top in your country) or very wealthy.

Yes, I do agree that it is very challenging. But I think it will be even more difficult to join a medical school after the four-year collage in Egypt.

The ones that leave you with the least debt.

Okay, like what ?

The best program for you would be to pursue medical school and neurosurgery training in your own country. Medical school admissions rate for internationals is something like 3% (compared to 45% for americans) and the majority of those acceptances are canadians. There is virtually 0 financial aid available to internationals and many schools will require you front the entire 4 years of tuition as a condition of entry. If you clear all these hoops, you will still probably fail to become a neurosurgeon as it is arguably the single most competitive specialty in medicine. I don’t know how many NSGY programs will even sponsor H1B/J-1s if you aren’t a citizen by then and also god only knows what our immigration laws will be by then.

Americans are very protective on medical specialists such as neurosurgeons. A friend of mine had three offices in Hong Kong as an accomplished neurosurgeon. In 1997, he fled Hong Kong in afraid of the Communist China took over. He came to US only got into Family Medicine, even he passed all the tests and required residency in flying color.
