Pre-Med question/need advice on which course...

Hey guys I just got back from orientation and have a question about what I should probably take. I took the math placement and got to exempt the Pre-cal and go to differential calculus my first year. But I had a choice of either taking it fall or spring semester. Well I was thinking about taking it in the spring so I won't have an enormous workload for the fall and my first semester, but the benefit in the long run of taking it first semester (BTW I'm pre-med) is that the spring semester of my sophomore year I would have to take just Biochem and O-chem as opposed to Bio, O-chem, and BioChem. What should I do? And I feel like the layoff for the entire fall may set me back some more for the spring as regards to calculus....

What are you planning on taking fall/spring semester this coming year? I took calculus my first semester here, along with chem1211, intro psych, and intro anthro, and got A's in everything except calculus (I didn't have it in high school, and I'm bad with that kind of math to begin with). It wasn't too difficult to balance all that. You might just wanna get calculus out of the way now so you don't have to worry about it later. Haha...I'm looking forward to my spring semester this year...Bio, biochem, and genetics! What a lovely mix

well for fall is calculus, chem1211 with lab, intro to chinese, and an arts/multicultural class that i have not decided on yet. but the chem1211 and lab seems like a very tough course from hearing the ppl i have spoken to, and chemistry has never been my strongest science. but hey i guess you need to do what it takes to be in the pre-med program! and btw jen, don't you think taking calculus will be more beneficial taking it in the fall? I just really don't want to feel overloaded since i do want to participate in some clubs. also, when did you take o-chem? did you also get to exempt your eng 1101 and 1102 your freshman year? thanks

Well, if you have time in your spring semester to take calculus, then you could. I hate calculus and knew I was bad at it, so I just got it over with as soon as possible. I'm taking first semester ochem now in the summer, so I'll finish next semester. I didn't want to start bio and ochem at the same time, and since I received a full year of bio credit from AP, I decided to take ochem in the summer. I did joint enrollment english my senior year in high school.

so jen, do you think taking the calculus and chem 1211 with lab will be manageable to get getting an A?

haha, if you mean an A in chem, then it's possible...I did it. An a in calc is probably possible too, but I was just bad at it. But if you're really that afraid, you could wait until your spring semester if it doesn't put you behind.

i would highly advise you not to take those 3 major science courses at the same time... biochem and o-chem2 are a workload as just two classes/ they are very difficult in content and to add bio1108 into the mix is a recipe for torture. u should consider taking bio 1107 in the spring sem of freshmen yr. so that way u can take bio 1108 and ochem2 together in fall of sophomore.

thanks premedstud i have made decided to go ahead and get cals 2250 over with this fall, also with calculus still decently fresh in my mind. and yeah the advisor told that would give the option of taking and moving the bio that i have to take in the spring of my soph. year back to the fall of my soph. year, and the one from the fall of my soph. year to the spring of my fresh. year. hope that makes sense!
