Pre-med success rate

I didn't know if i should put this on the Harvard forum or the Medical and Pre-med forum, but...

Does anyone know what percent of Harvard premeds get into a medical school? It'd be nice if there were statistics from other school as well

Thank you,

90% is the acceptance rate to med school

^^after lots of kids have dropped out of the courses and decided to go into another field.

Well, I am probably going to go to Harvard next year (LL), and i am pretty much dead set on medicine. i have worked at hospitals for like 4 years etc etc., so i am MOST likely going to do medicine. How difficult are the courses? Will a normal average person who is decently smart and works hard make it?

woah, that’s higher than i expected

thank you

acceptance to med school is based on GPA, MCAT scores, and meaningful science/medical/volunteer activities. Many med schools have a minimum GPA (around a 3.6) for you to be considered a serious candidate. That being said, be very careful in your course selections while at Harvard. While many premeds at Harvard are science majors, many are not. Since the curve in science classes can be tough, it can actually hurt your GPA by being the typical bio pre-med. Don’t push yourself to take the toughest science/math classes, unless of course you very interested in them. Retake calc 1, even if you have great AP scores. You must be smart in your course selections to assure a high GPA for med school application success. The Office of career services at Harvard publishes an approximate acceptance rate to med school at 90%.
