If he were to fail, or not succeed, he will be among the many who were weeded out in Bio and Chem. He won't feel like the Lone Ranger. Even at my D's well respected and nurturing LAC freshman bio and chem are just killing kids who came in with med school aspirations. </p>
<p>OP, I wouldn't sweat it. Let him try and y'all support his efforts at every turn. Counsel him to immediately seek all study aids they have available and go every day and every hour something is offered. It is O.K. to tell him that it is his game to lose and he's starting out behind. Med school may not be in his future but gee willikers. There are many smaller but still very meaningful victories that can come from his efforts to excel. Concentrate on those. Be proud of those. Ain't nothing good gonna come from not trying. JMO. </p>
<p>My D continues to marvel, as she did in high school, "Dad, I'm one of 5 kids who went to the prof's office hours and I'm making <em>a good grade</em>. What's wrong with this picture? " I dunno, kid. I just dunno.</p>
