I'm a freshman at SCSU in New Haven, CT. So far I've taken the bio pre-req's, botany and zoology. I don't like my school, and it is insufficient for pre-med IMO. So I'm going to transfer out next fall. Currently, my gpa is around a 3.6, and ec's include: volunteering at Yale-NH hospital, habitat for humanity (including a trip we took to NC during spring break), guitarist (10 years), snowboarding, school newspaper writer, emt-b (waiting to get certified). What are some good programs for me? Looking for a small-medium sized school on the east coast.

We don't know anything about undergrad admissions on this board. Try Transfer Applications.

well, this is the "pre-med" board, and I'm looking for a "pre-med" program. Most of you don't even know about pre-med anyway.

That's a pretty ignorant thing to say. For your information, bluedevilmike and this board in general are extremely valuable sources of information. However, this board is NOT concerned with undergrad school/transfer issues as much as, say, the "college selection and search" board.

hahaha chillax everyone lol.

Snowrider if you really hate your school that much you gotta try and think about what you really want in a school then and how you want them to prepare yourself for medical school application, etc.

I'm not from CT so I have no idea what small school will help you. Just like when you were in HS, look through the small schools and ask them what theyre premed program is like if they have it, or what the statistics are of premeds getting into med school. Just do all that stuff and hopefully you'll find a school you'll like.

just pick a good school. the "better the name" the better your chances.

Demonstrably not true.

Really? I was wondering this myself…I chose a 4th tier school over WashU/UChicago/UCLA and I’m really starting to regret it…

We know that there are some situations where better-name schools do worse. We also know that in most situations the candidate effects vastly outweigh the school effects. Where the school effects are very large, however – e.g. WUSTL vs. a “4th tier” – sometimes they can matter.
