Hello! I got accepted to a couple of universities and these are the top ones right now, I’ve heard good things about UCSD’s science department but Purdue would be the cheapest for me and Emory is still the best university (and the most expensive) so I’m reallly confused on what to choose.
Purdue is fine for a premed. Are you instate??
No premed should go to a UC if they’re OOS.
No reason to spend more money for Emory when you have Purdue as a very good and affordable option.
If the difference between UCSD and Purdue is significant, pick UCSD. If they’re both out of state, UCSD will be the best option for a premed.
UCSD is $60K a year for OOS students. You will not receive a penny of financial aid from UCSD.
You need to save your dollars for med school.
General guidance to my students on the issue of selecting the best premed schools: Two Cases - Case A) for 100% sure, yup, no way no how I will NOT apply Med school kids - find the best school with the lowest debt burden and the least amount of grade deflation - everyone is different, so the selection of schools will be different… some places like JHU would weed the heck out of the premed class and others like Emory would not discourage anyone. The issue of grade deflation is real for premed track students, some argue the undergrad school prestige will affect the med school acceptance odds, it is both yes and no. A high performing kid from JHU will beat a high performing kid from a lower tier… but a high performing kid from a lower tier will do just as well a mid-performing kid from a high tier school. Keep that in mind. Case B) for the ok, I really like premed, but I think there is still a chance to change kids - go for the best school wrt the financial burden. The best school will likely be a higher rank school with broad offerings in different majors - this gives tremendous flexibility including not seeking postgrad work after graduation. JMHO.

Heck NO!
An OOS premed should NOT go to a UC. Period.
