Pre-Med

I'm applying to Tufts University because I'm interested in their med program. If you place into the early assurance program, you can become part of their med school without taking the MCAT. Are there other schools that offer similar opportunities?

Yes, there are at least a dozen that I know of. Most are associated with a specific undergrad just like the Tufts program.

If you are talking about combined bs/md or ba/md, it used to be about 30 - 35 in a country when my D. started at one of them. These are for HS graduates. There are other programs that are for the UG sophomores, there are fewer number of these. D. ended up applying out of her combined bs/md, but others wenst straight to Med. School, no application fee, no interview, but MCAT was required at this program (the required score was 27 though, pretty easy to obtain considering that many get about 25 on the first diagnostic test without preparation at all and not even completing some required classes)

There are other early assurance programs out there. Georgetown is one that comes to mind. Just google early assurance programs. My son is at Tufts. He applied to early assurance program last year with top grades and didn’t get in. So you can’t really count on it.

Unless your ACT has increased by several points, I doubt you’d be accepted into an assured program.

Students who get accepted have stats that are enough that the school can be confident that the student would have high enough stats to get into med school the traditional way. An ACT 28 would not convince an assured program.

Never mind with “My GPA is a 4.2 on a 5.0 scale, I have a 28 on my ACT”, no chance at any of these, they are more selective than Ivy’s

@momworried - So this is a program for students to get in early after getting admitted to the college and spending an year or two?

@texaspg‌, yes students generally apply in sophomore year of college. Med school considers your college grades up to that point, your high school GPA and your SAT/ACT scores. So @mom2collegekids‌ is right. With an ACT of 28 OP has no chance at that program in Tufts. He won’t even get to the interview process. The kids that apply to that program are top notch.
