Pre-med?

how is pre med at michigan?

It’s competitive. You have to be willing to go the extra mile for everything. Not too cutthroat though.

would it be possible to major in econ and still do pre-med?

Also, does Michigan prepare u well for medical school?

It would be possible to major in econ and still do premed.

It is possible to major in econ and still be premed. I know that Michigan Econ 401 is one of the most failed classes at the university. Although nothing is impossible, if you are willing to go the extra mile, you will be good. I have a friend who majored in econ and she went to Harvard Medical School. Michigan sends students to the top medical schools in the country every year. It prepares students well for medical school, however everything is pretty much up to the students work ethic and involvement in organizations and extracurricular activities that display your strong passion to pursue medicine.

oh very interesting, I am not positive about medicine because I am not exactly sure what kinds of classes pre meds have to take and what kind of learning experience a pre med has.

Well premeds usually take the following:

1 year of Biology w/ lab
1 year of Physics w/ lab
2 years of Chemistry (general, organic, p-chem) w/ lab
1 year of English
1 semester of biochemistry (some colleges require/recommend it)
1 semester of mathematics (at least 1 of these…statistics, calculus, calculus 2, etc)

I would say the learning style of a successful premed student is “concept and application” learning. There are many concepts that you have to master. You have to understand why something happens, instead of memorizing facts. Although memorization helps in classes like biology.

Premed is a good experience. Although there is too much competition at times and students stress levels are high because of grades. Most premeds are very grade conscious.

Interesting, and is organic chemistry as bad as everyone makes it out to be lol?

naw, organic chem isn’t so bad. biochem and genetics are pretty difficult.

yea, so what are the most difficult/require the most work out of the pre med courses?

probably biochem.

interesting, are the classes relatively interesting?
