Are we required to attend one?

No. I don’t think there are even enough spaces in all the FPOPs to permit all incoming freshmen to participate.

They’re an optional way for freshmen to make friends while pursuing fun, thematic activities. From my experience, most freshmen who do FPOPs tend to hang out with the people they met through their FPOPs throughout their first year.

Nope. But they’re lots of fun :)

Should I take DEECS: Discover Electrical Engineering & Computer Science if I have no idea about computer science and would like to possibly major in it (6-3)?

There probably is no better reason.

Yeah, I agree. That’s my second choice (of only 2, after freshman arts program), and I’m doing it for the same reasons (no experience at all, not even sure if I’d like it enough to major in it). Plus the main point of FPOPs for me personally is to meet people, not necessarily to get a head start on learning stuff for my major.
