Pre-pharm/pharm.D. Joint program

<p>I am admitted to the University of the Pacific for Pre-pharm/pharm.D. 6 years Joint program and to USC for Pre-pharm/pharm.D. 7 years Joint program.
Both of the colleges that I got admitted to guaranteed the admissions to their Pharmacy schools as long as I complete all the required courses during undergrad years with certain amount of GPA (2.7 for UOP, 3.2 for USC). However, my friends told me that there would be more requirements than what is mentioned on guideline. Since many other students in pre-pharm program drop out in the middle of their undergrad years, I am pretty scared. Should I just go to USC and get pharm.D Degree? or Would it be too difficult for me?
I look forword to hearing from you.
Thank you..!!</p>

<p>Hi Sung1124,
I was accepted into UOP for the Pre-pharm Advantage, too; however, I got into the 2+3 Program. I would say UOP because it's just a better school in recent years. Check out: <a href="http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/about/pass_rates.htm%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/about/pass_rates.htm&lt;/a>
UOP's graduates have better rates of passing the CA License Test, but the tuition is outrageous and enough to keep me away. Anyways, I'm going to URI's School of Pharmacy. URI is paying my tuition, and there are no interviews or any other bumps in the road. Not a shabby deal.

BTW, what do you mean by "should I just go to USC and get pharm.D Degree? or Would it be too difficult for me?" You also get the Pharm. D at UOP minus the bachelor's degree.</p>

<p>errrmmm, if u dont mind me asking, what is the differece between pre-pharm and pharm?? :p sry if its a stupid question</p>

<p>In the old days most pharmacists (not in CA) would get a bachelors only- in pharmacy. Recently the Pharm D degree is what is available everywhere. Prepharmacy will give you the required courses (prerequisites) for Pharmacy school. Check the college websites for the details, some schools may not take all the prepharmacy students. (Sorry, I'm an MD, from the old days...).</p>

<p>Hi wis75,
You mentioned "the old days..." If you don't mind me asking, how long ago was that?

<p>would it be better to have a bachelors first? or just straight for PharmD?</p>

<p>It depends on the school you attend. At the school I plan on attending, less than 30% get a bachelors first. At other schools, 95% of people may have one. It depends on how competitive the school is. Try checking their website or talking to a pharmacy admissions counselor.</p>

<p>i had a quick question: how hard was it to get into uop’s 2+3 program? do you mind sharing your gpa and sat scores? it would be helpful. i am a junior in hs but i am really interested in uop’s pharmacy program. thank you!</p>

<p>the question was for both nebuchadnezzar and sung1124. please reply back! thanks!</p>
