*Pre-PSAT Thread* Calling all PSAT test-takers!!!

The NJ semi-finalist cut-off is around 221 ;_;
I’ve been doing well on SAT practice tests (2230, 2240ish), but I did the PSAT practice test the school gives you, and I only got 212.
There’s nothing much I can do now, besides hope for the best.

I took the practice test in the Student Guide yesterday and only got a 198 (68/65/65). The cutoff for Pennsylvania is 216. I’m really freaking out. I’m going to take the tests in last year’s PR book, but only if I have time. What can I do these last four days to improve my score?

I took the practice test yesterday also and got a 206 (77CR /64MA /65WR) my state’s cutoff is 210-211. My best advice is to pick the subject you feel weakest in and do some BB practice problems - thats what i’m doing…

Does anyone know what the policy is on discussing answers after the test?

^I’d say that there is probably an embargo for a certain period of time. However, the PSAT doesn’t have one of those “I will not disclose test questions” statements like the SAT/AP/Subject tests so.

I just got a 230 on the provided practice test (well above OH’s ~211), but I’m a bit worried that this test was easier than normal. I heard a few CCers referring to it as such. Any second opinions? (I did fairly badly on my soph. test and only got a 203, so I’m a little bit worried right now.)

I have the BB from 2005 (took SAT in 2007). Are those questions still on par with today’s?

^Yes.

3.141592653…

^^^ Provided practice test also seemed to easy :(

Wow, it’s tomorrow. I can’t believe it. All my life’s worth is going into tomorrow’s test. Jk. XD Wish me luck. Any news or gossip about this year’s PSAT so far?

im staying up all night to cram…oh wait. my test is saturday :)

good luck!~

SF cutoff is ~214-216 in HI
My practice put me about 10 points under that >___<
But I usually do well under the pressure provided by real test conditions.
Let’s see how well I can do tomorrow!!

((SO NERVOUS OMG))

How can I get my score up 10 points guys?

Direct Hits, Silverturtle’s Guide and practice tests. Of course it all depends on where you are now. If you have already done a lot of prep and increased your scores significantly, it may be hard to get a 10 point bump. Good luck!

so how many could you get wrong and still get a 210?

Does anyone know how common, if at all, it is for CB to recycle items from a previous year’s test?

PSAT questions are never reused as is since the tests are effectively made public (the College Board sells them online a few months after the test). This isn’t to say, of course, that problems similar to those that have appeared before don’t show up on new tests…

You’ll often see vocabulary words being recycled (this is true for all CB tests), though not in the same places. E.g. the word “diffident” was an answer to a question on one of the old PSATs (if I’m remembering correctly), and was an incorrect choice on this year’s. Also, the CB will use vocabulary from former SC’s in the passages, or even the writing section (just to make it a little intimidating), and vice versa.

That said, no, the CB does not “recycle” whole questions from previous PSATs/released or QAS SATs.

Thanks, JMdo12, that is really what I meant to ask. I had seen some posts on CC suggesting the repeat of some words.
