@NeensMom My daughter’s Rider Yes came in about a week after submitting her pre-screen. It updated in their “Be a Bronc” portal allowing her to schedule the audition, several days before she got the official email “yes”. Maybe check the portal to make sure nothing is missing???
@NeensMom my daughter’s Yes from Rider came 27 days after submitting the pre-screen. Like others said it was updated in the “Be-a-Bronc” portal days before the email came.
@NeensMom-- My D’s Yes email from Rider came exactly a month after submitting her prescreen, but like others, the portal was updated a day or 2 before that…
anyone having trouble opening the “required questionnaire” for boco? no matter where I try pulling it up, it comes up as “not found”
@universitygirl44 had the same issue. Had to email them to get a new link. They responded quickly. Good luck!
They ask you to bring written copies of the audition questionnaire and dance questionnaire. Are these different than the form pdf that we had to email in? If not, how did you receive them?
It’s interesting to see who most people are auditioning for. Seems almost everyone has Rider, BoCo, Emerson, Ithaca and Point Park on their list. I thought I would see more Shenandoah (maybe it draws a more specific crowd with the rock/pop reputation?) and Viterbo. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone on this thread other than me mention the University of Arizona. Maybe that’s because they don’t prescreen, but I’ve seen a lot of people mention Hartt so who knows. Anyway, hoping everyone matches with the right school for them!
@NeensMom My D is applying for Lighting Design to University of Arizona. No interview required. ?
Regarding Rider-- Our experience was somewhat interesting. We didn’t submit a prescreen because we did the live prescreen at CAP and then got called back the next day. Soon after we got an email saying she was accepted into the school AND the MT program. It was a bit confusing because we thought there would be more to it than that. We emailed to clarify–and it appears it’s a done deal that we are accepted.
Has anyone heard of any acceptances / offers from Pace? Have a reason for asking ?
@SavsMom Congratulations! Just curious given the direction of some of the earlier posts in this thread, did the Rider “yes” come with a specified deadline to let them know your decision? (Trying to get a clearer picture on how notifications are done.)
@SavsMom Whoops . . . Was referring to earlier posts in “sharing, venting, discussing” thread about possible early deadlines for responses to the schools. Still interested in knowing if any early reply required by Rider. Thanks.
@onette Although D was a “no” for both acting and MT at Pace, several of her classmates were “Yes” for acting - which is weird as she’s generally thought of as the strongest actor in her group. None of them passed for MT at Pace. The Director of her school says “Pace never passes any of our kids for MT” which is so strange because each yr they place quite well in other top programs.
This stuff will drive you crazy if you let it. I strongly advise everyone to stop the comparing (I know it’s hard) and focus on the “Yeses”. Can only attend one school. Great training at virtually all the BFAs and some of the better BAs. This isn’t a talent show (they’re all talented). They are casting their future seasons. They may be looking for a belter or a quirky personality for comic relief or both or neither…
Congratulations!! I must say, I’m so thankful to have found this forum and the wealth of info here, but I also feel like we are several steps behind so many of you. I never heard of CAP or Moonifieds until this week. My daughter isn’t working with an audition coach. We are going to Unifieds in LA but Rider has given so many acceptances, I have to wonder if there will be any spots left by February!
@NeensMom In our experience, your D’s auditions will get better with practice, so see if you can attend a mock audition class or workshop over the holidays.
Our D’s high school teachers and even private teachers weren’t much help—this is specialized and you really need someone who knows the drill to guide you.
As a proxy for a live coach, two books you might consider are
I Got In by Mary Anna Dennard
The Ultimate Musical Theater College Audition Guide by Amy Rogers Schwartzreich
The latter of these has many quotes from college auditors as well as useful do/don’t tips (and why) for live auditions. I have a kindle version of this one on my phone. Hopefully those will help prepare your D for her live auditions with all aspects—and there are many.
Break a Leg!
@NeensMom every year people worry that all spaces will be filled by LA Unifieds but the schools know Unifieds are coming! Keep in mind that this current environment in which applicants apply to many schools results in a lower yield number for MT programs. Most programs have to accept many more students then they can matriculate because not all students they accept will attend. Don’t worry about schools running out of space! Just focus on staying sane, keeping your sense of humor, and keeping your D happy and healthy so she can Rock those LA auditions. Attending a mock audition a great idea if you can.
agree w @MTisNutz thus we followed the advice of many " old timers" and did a bunch of fall auditions, or BA program auditions for scholarship…we are fotunate one resulted in a YES but really gearing up for January & February, that said its all still a crap shoot so I agree with those comments previously stated. We are trying “to run our own race”. while this site has been incredibly informative, it also makes running your own race hard as I suggested in an earlier post, this site highlights the over achievers & many who struggle or dont have wonderful outcomes fall by the wayside and stop posting/coming etc…
@onette I think some maybe have heard academically? But they don’t start auditions until next week.
@njvafl For Rider there was no request to decide earlier than May 1.
@SavsMom Thank you! We are heading up there later this month.
