Due to a family emergency that transpired this February...

I have withdrawn from 3 courses this semester.

Calculus III
General Biology II
Economics: Poverty and Discrimination

Which leaves me with 12 credits this semester... (Originally registered for 20...dropped 3( 4+4+3 cr)... picked up another 3 credit course offered in second half of our semester...which leaves me with 12 credits in total.

** I am going to take Calculus III and General Biology II this summer again!

(1) Do you think I must notify the withdrawal and addition to the universities I am applying to given that I am taking these courses again in summer.

(2) Do you think it might adversely impact the admission decision when they see my final transcript in August.

LA GAURDIA CC (NY)
82 credits earned ... 12 in progress this semester ... (16 planned for summer)
GPA: 3.72
MAJOR: ACCOUNTING
APPLIED TO: CORNELL, UIUC (accepted), NYU, USC, UVA, UTEXAS (rejected), Indiana, WashU, Georgetown, BYU, Berkeley, Syracuse (accepted) **

I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sort of in the same position as you (with UMiami) and they told me that as long as there is only a W and no grade it will not effect your admissions decision. The only way they would rescind it is if your GPA dropped.. the W's wouldn't effect your decision.. but they said they would probably have to talk to you. Hope that helps, but don't stress too much.. if you were failing all those classes you'd be in trouble but withdraws shouldn't be the end of the world!

Uh, it's a pretty serious deal. UIUC doesn't take withdrawals lightly unless you provide a written explaination. If you don't justify these W's, they most likely will rescind your admission. I assume the same is true regarding the other schools.

I have already notified UIUC... they said it won't make a difference unless it was a pre-requisite.

What is most confusing is ... Ok! It makes sense to notify ... if u are dropping a course and never taken it again... but if u are taking again... I don't see the point...

Don't sweat it.. ur fine! Everyone drops classes sometimes.. like they said unless it was some sort of required course and you didn't retake it, it would be a problem.. but since you are retaking it then it DEFINITELY wouldn't be a prob.

I'm just curious, you have 82 credits and planning to add 32 with a total of 114 credits and to graduate, you only need 120 credits. Why are you transferring and going to pay for all those courses (the rest of the required 60 credits from that college) when you could graduate from your current college?

I have to agree with, Caille. I think it's a pretty serious deal. There needs to be some serious justification for a W, and although I'm sure you have one, three W's is going to hurt you much more than just one W, IMO. I would think this is especially true for schools such as WashU, Georgetown, and USC, who are going to have candidates with spotless records applying. Just one Dick's opinion.

Mbiology08... I am from a community college and it doesn't matter how many credits I have as long as I know and accept that only 64 will transfer. (That's what all these universities told me)

Stewaduall... I felt the way you said... but I have surpassed all their requirements... This is some extra stuff .... Lol! is Calc III ...biology II...or poverty and discrimination...even required for all these schools.

Anyways... I am going to keep my fingers crossed. I have notified them about Bio II and Eco:Poverty and Disc... but not Calc III.

I am not going to notify abt CalcIII coz its stupid... because not only is it not required.... I am also taking it again in Summer...

a withdrawal is a withdrawal and these school will want to know about it. I'm sure you'll have to send a final transcript, and when they see it, they'll be like wow, and they might rescind you. I mean you have a reason you said, so just tell them. It's better to be proactive than not react at all. Let them know you were forced to withdraw because of family emergencies, and explain the situation. They're more willing to understand if you tell them than if they have to force you to tell them. Additionally, if you don't tell them, they may automatically assume you withdrew to not risk lowering your GPA, or something of that accord.

Oh, well it just looks weird if you dropped calc III afterwards, did you drop it for the same reasons? I don't know, I guess yours is a unique situation now. I don't really have any additional insight.

I think you are fine kenien, don't sweat it.. you called and they told you not to worry.. so why are you letting the people on here get you worried?

Oh sorry I was under the impression you wanted to go to UIUC, you are in some trouble if you haven't been accepted yet.. you should definitely alert the schools who still have to review your application before they accept you because chances are you'll get rejected. I dont think W's usually get your rescined but they will get you rejected.

That would be my guess, those are some very selective schools that still haven't accepted you yet. Remember everything we are saying on here is merely speculation.. admissions are weird and you never know you might be accepted.
