Hey, who did you research with at Harvard? And what year? I was there too! I wonder if we know each other.

ACT is too low unless URM.

You seem to have a high regard for regard…

^ I don’t think the OP’s ACT is too low…I’m pretty sure a 31 is in the middle 50% of enrolled students. It’s not extremely high, but I definitely wouldn’t call it too low.

@OP
Based on your stats, EC’s, etc., you seem to have as good a chance as anyone. But do remember that with schools like Duke, admissions tend to be more holistic so they could offer admission based on something we CC’ers don’t see with what you’ve posted, especially anything in essays and recommendations. You’re certainly on the right track to being a qualified applicant, but do keep in mind that qualified applicants are rejected to top schools every year. Once you’ve got the scores, etc. you’ve proven that you are academically prepared for a school like Duke, but to stand out among the best students in the nation, you’ll need to show something special (and this is where essays are especially significant). They need to know you’re more than a good student, and that you’re someone who can contribute something to the school.

I’m just trying to relay some of the best advice I got as a junior preparing for the college application process; hope it helps! Best of luck!

P.S. The farthest anyone on this forum can really “chance” is say whether you’ve got a decent chance (based on stats). None of us see the rest of your (future) application, and we’re not adcoms so it’s extremely difficult for any of us to tell you you’re in or not. But I understand; I went through this myself. The best part about these chance threads is the (mostly good) advice you’ll get…amazing how much I’ve learned since joining CC.
