prefer a quantitative SAT subject level test

We hadn't seen this before, but the school's preference for a quantitative SAT subject level test is featured prominently on the school's web page.

My D already took two non-quant SAT2s, though she also took AP Calc (got a 4) and scored well on the SAT1 Math.

How much do you think it would ding her app to exclude a quant SAT2?

By the way, my D HAS a quant SAT2 test score that she COULD send in. She didn't refresh her memory regarding the subject matter before testing, however, and doesn't like the score (690 on the SAT MathIIc).

Anyone? Anyone?

She doesn't have an option as to whether she send in that 690, does she? There's no more score choice. Wellesley usually considers the top three, but a 690 is nothing to be ashamed of, and it will at least show them that she's not a hopeless case in math or anything.

She sent her SAT1 and 2 SAT subject level scores to Wellesley BEFORE taking the third test SAT subject level test. Thus, Wellesely will not know about this math test unless we send them the score.

No, a 690 is nothing to be ashamed about, but it is not on par with the rest of her app. Given that Wellesley only asks for two SAT2 tests, her inclination (and ours) is to just to leave good enough alone and just not send the results of this last test.

I also have this dilemma! If I take a quantitative SAT II, I'll only bomb it. I'm guessing Biology doesn't count...

Actually, I would be surprised if Biology didn't count. Doesn't it count as a quantitative at Middlebury?

HOORAY! that's really good news.

Yes. Wellesely says a math or a science.

Hrm. That's interesting. Well what if you got a 620 on your Biology E but scored a 4 on AP Biology? From what I heard Biology E SAT2 is the hardest SAT2 test - although 620 is still pretty bad.

I wrote to the admission's office and explained the situtation. Here's the response I got:

"It's just a preference that she takes a quantitative one and I would not have her take another one since she has already taken two subject tests. She is fine with what she has. If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact us. Thanks!"

My question was:

My daughter, XXX, will apply for admission as a freshman next
year. We note that the school updated its information on standardized
tests and includes a preference for a quantitative SAT subject level
test. We didn't see this preference before or hear it discussed during
the informational session over the summer.

Here is our question. My daughter has a strong math SAT1 score (780), a 4 on the AP calculus exam, and mostly As in IB math and IB science.
(She has not taken her IB tests yet, but will test HL in science and SL in math.) Her two SAT subject level tests, however, were nonquantitative: US History and Spanish.

She really wants to put in a good application to Wellesely and will sit
for another SAT test if necessary. Given the profile I described above,
do you think it is necessary for my daughter to take another SAT
subject level test? Or, would her strong SAT1 and AP Calc scores
suffice? Thank you.

That's good news.

I would, however, in the future, have her be the one who is in contact with admissions offices. It's a good idea to start that now, and the admissions office would rather see a student taking initiative than a parent.
