Any parent activities?

None listed here. They also have not listed all of the little tours and such that are available. The description of the night at Ellis Island refers to a guide book that is not available.

I don't remember any glitzy activities for parents. If I recall correctly parent events were very institutional -- i.e. security at Barnard, meet the prez, that type of thing. We didn't attend any, but since I teach at college level I get just about as much of that sort of thing as I can bear. We moved D in and made a quick exit because she had a date with a CC guy she had met on face book. Who says it's a Women's College?

Worried about this year because DS, who did so much iof the heavy lifting, moves into Williamstown first for frosh year. DH and I will have to step up to the plate.

All parent activities are limited to the very first day of first-year move-in. There are meetings, a speech by the president, a lunch and reception where you can meet faculty and such and then a VERY definite time for parents to say goodbye and LEAVE. It was pretty funny to look around and see all the teary-eyed people....ummm, except I was one.....:)

Our dd just moved in today (yeah!) and the report from Mom who flew out from SFO with her on Sunday is that there were lots of teary-eyed parents. Buy Mom had no time to indulge - or to engage in the NSOP parent-events - her time was all taken up running backwards and forwards to the hardware store for extension cords, fans (Brooks Hall has no a/c and it was hot today in NYC) and so on.

I can't believe it's finally happened - she's now a Barnard student!

Congrats, britdad! I hope she has a great NSOP week!

Keep us posted... :)

Just got back from dropping off the younger D. Her roommate is also from the San Francisco area. Roommate bought a small electric fan from the venders on campus. It was remarkably effective for being so small. My D also noted the teary-eyed parents and students. I think she felt a little guilty for not being teary-eyed herself. As if she were letting down the side a little. Older D leaves tonight. See you at parents' weekend.

Hi Barnard parents!

D helped us move her brother into Williams yesterday. She helped him decorate his room like the caring big sister she is. She sounded like a little old lady when she said she envied his tabula rasa. Williams move-in day was sedate compared to the frantic hysteria on B'way I so enjoyed. We take D on Friday, and she is already bemoaning the loss of her brother's strong back and good nature. At least Barnard has elevators. Four flights at Williams without elevators! The purple mountains at Williams are beautiful, and so are the lights of B'way. Their preferences are so different!

God luck to all your girls (women) this year. I am so grateful to Barnard I scrounged money to give to its fundraising drive.

We leave a bit later to take d up for move in. CMdad and I are looking forward (at d's invitation!) to spending a few days up there with her, helping her and her suitemates get settled in and learning to use the gas broiler on their oven :)

My d is already starting to bemoan the fact that she only has one more year after this....Barnard has been absolutely wonderful for her!
