Are any of you premed, or were you? A big factor to getting into med school is having a high GPA. Is it possible to have a 3.6 without losing your social life completely?
Certainly. It’s called balancing your curriculum. Columbia’s core forces you to take a wide range of courses to ease your science studies and raise your GPA.
Obviously…my roommate is a frat star pre-med with a 3.93 and is in the top of his neuroscience major.
Columbia students are generally very serious about their studies, and they work hard at it, but from what my son tells me, they study hard because they love it. But they also appreciate the importance of blance between studying and social time.
I don’t get why so many people stress about a high GPA for med school - if you are good enough and lucky enough to get into Columbia, you are good enough to do well there, and then certainly good enough to get into med school.
