Premed at Duke-Advice for prospective student?

Hey hey. I've been admitted to Duke's Trinity School and we (my family and I) are all ecstatic! But at the same time, considering our family's financial situation, we're probably not going to get much aid, so my job now is to determine if duke truly is "the one."

I'm thinking about doing premed in college and while I've researched Duke in light of its opportunities and strengths, I'd love to hear input from others who are either also considering duke or are attending duke. Is it difficult to get A's? What kind of majors should I consider (I love science, but I am def open to exploring new things)? When do we get to take small classes? Is it bureaucratic? etc etc

And even if it is advice just in general about duke's academics and life, I'd greatly appreciate it!

By the way, in case anyone's wondering...the other schools I have been accepted to are Michigan (honors college) and UIllinois-Urbana Champaign and UIC. I'm also waiting for Northwestern.

Thanks loads :)

Answers to the above would be extremely helpful for me too! I'm also looking at Duke for pre-med

haha bluedevilmike, you know what's funny? I've actually read your post on that forum when I was first applying :) It was a very comprehensive and helpful post and def put Duke on my list. Thanks!

Haha -- sorry for the redundancy. Obviously I think Duke turned out really, really great for my premedical career.

I do want to mention that Dean Kay Singer has recently retired. She's been replaced, I believe, by a team of four people, but I do think it'll take them a little while to get their feet underneath them again. But the infrastructure she laid down is really solid, and certainly I'm sure she's advised the new team very, very well. While Singer is, of course, irreplaceable, I'm sure things will be a well-oiled machine by that time.
