so, basically i dont know anything about getting into med school except that you need to take the MCAT and straight A's.

im a biochem/chem major, and im wondering if anyone can, idk tell me some information for getting into med school? ive googled and such, but i dont feel im grasping it really, especially since the sites arent ucsd specific (idk if it would make a difference at all though).

im not even sure what questions to ask.
what classes do i need to take?
volunteering?
just focus on my major's requirements, MCAT, and volunteering?

uhm..yeah.
im putting this in the ucsd section here, because i figure i would probably just stay at ucsd for med school since my parents are getting me a place in la jolla.

You don’t need straight As, and there are a lot of medical schools out there that don’t recruit the most … disciplined of students. The premed forum on CC has a zillion times more advice (and experience) than we can offer here.

And UCSD’s a Very Good Medical School. It’s going to take more than just “wanting” to stay in La Jolla to earn you a spot in the first-year class.

ohh. really? idk maybe im getting my “pre med students need straight A’s” from tv ahah not the best source.

so med school at ucsd isnt specific? there arent any things that would apply to ucsd then?
ok ty;D

hahaha yeah i know, i didnt mean for it to be like “im juuust staying here because of that” i know ucsd is good, but there’s “better” with “popular” names and whatnot (asian parents, what? ha)

The only clear benefits of applying to UCSD SOM from UCSD undergrad are (1) no traveling required and (2) your letter of rec writer MIGHT know someone on the adcom. But don’t count on it. Aim higher than that.

And in addition to CC’s premed forum, studentdoctor is also a great (probably better) resource for neurotic premeds. Make sure to do your own research before running to the site and immediately posting “hi i wanna be a doctor someone tell me what i have to do!” because you will get lots of angry responses.

The Average Stats for an accepted medical students nationally is a 3.67 GPA and 31Q MCAT. Expect it to be 3.7+ and 32+ MCAT by the time you apply.
