Anyone has any ideas among these three schools in premed program? Less than 3 weeks to choose. Any input would be appreciated.

My input: go wherever you think you might like it more. From a premed perspective, t’s not like premed is unheard of at any of these three places, or that they have track records for success that can be reliably distinguished. It’s the other perspectives where differences can be readily identified, and personal preferences applied. Seems to me.

I know at least one student who’s a premed at each of the universities you mentioned. At Cornell, the biggest plus is that you have a WIDE range of classes to choose from. If you want variety, or if you think that you might change your mind about premed later (honestly, so many people do), then Cornell will offer you many options outside of biology. In addition, because of the size of Cornell, you will usually be able to find a lab to research in by the time you are a sophomore.

Washu is a different environment when it comes to the number of its offerings. It’s in St. Louis (where I’m from) so you are more or less next to a big city. Research is great at Washu, but it might take a lot more work to get into a lab since everyone wants to research. I know some people who are in labs right now because of connections. Also, the number of classes they offer is less than half of that of Cornell. The weed out classes are hard, yes, but they are in no way impossible.

Northwestern is in a nice location… all I’ve heard so far is that the weed out classes are extremely hard and stressful. Others correct me if I’m wrong. Otherwise, it is also a much smaller school than Cornell and I would imagine there are less course offerings. I don’t know specifics about being able to research at Northwestern though.

In the end, I think that all three of the schools offer great preparation for med school. Are you a college town kind of person or more of a city kind of person? Consider that, as well as whether or not course offerings outside of biology are important to you.

Anyway, you can’t go wrong with the established Cornell name, as it is the “old money” in universities… but it’s all up to you :)

Thank you for your detailed analysis of each school. I am going to WashU next week and will make decisions after the visit. I am pretty much set for premed but might change my mind after I get in. By the name, the probability of going to Cornell 40%, WashU 35% and NU 25%. Anything can change after the visit to WashU. Thanks again.

I visited WASHU right after I was accepted and after seeing it it made the choice more difficult (I’m going to be pre-vet). I chose Cornell but WASHU is really nice too! Good luck! You can’t loose with any of the three.

Awww, you aren’t gona visit Cornell? I feel like Washu and its new buildings will make you want to go there for that reason…

ceresma, Cornell is the way to go for pre-vet ;)

I’ve been to both places and in my opinion, the Cornell campus has WAY more character than the Wash U campus. Just my 2 cents

Gorges. Hill. Lake. Sunsets. Plantations. Towers.

Yes. It’s quite nice. :)
