Hi. I was just curious if anybody knew what was considered the average graduating GPA for a premed Barnard student? Also, if a Barnard student graduates with a GPA above a 3.7, do you think they are in the running for Latin honors? What is the breakdown for summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude in terms of GPA’s? Thanks for your time! :)

Not sure about the latin honors thing (I do believe that has changed recently, though), but there is really no exact definition of a "pre-mad Barnard student". They do have great advising for those considering a pre-med track, but there have been students admitted to med school from Barnard with all sorts of majors.

Update: My daughter found it for me...

If you want the complete explanation of how Barnard awards honors, go to the Barnard website and download the Barnard Course Catalogue and look for the explanation of how it's done. To sum it up, though, it basically says that departmental honors are awarded to a "small percentage" of students. There are apparently no set minimum GPAs or anything. The GPA required for Dean's List (awarded yearly, not per semester) is listed: 3.4.
