I'm an international accepted to Macalester college with scholarship. I want to study medicine in the future and at the moment I am wondering if premed in Macalester would make me a competetive student in the future.

If there are any current students here who would like to share their experience or knowledge about Macalester's premed program I would be more than grateful. Also, what are the cons&pros of being a Macalester student? I am an active student who values student life, but I'm afraid that premed might steal away my time and motivation/enthusiasm to be a part of this community.

I think you'd do well with Macalester's pre-med program. I read an article back when I was an admit that said that Mac students have an impressively high acceptance rate to med schools, particularly because students can easily do internships in hospitals in the Twin Cities, so that bumps up their applications (I think this was in the Wall Street Journal, so I can't access it, or at least can't find it anywhere online for free).
Of course, being pre-med is a lot of work. Organic chemistry seems to always be at 8:30 in the morning, and you'd spend a lot of time in the science building. However, that doesn't seem to deter people from getting involved in various extracurricular activities; you just have to be able to manage your time well. And there are a lot of international students here, many of whom major in a science (second only to econ) so you'd have lots of people in similar situations as yourself.
Also, there seems to be a lot of comradery between pre-med students: they're all taking the same prerequisites so know each other well and aren't competing against each other. There's more of a Midwestern, laid back, friendly vibe here.
I'm not majoring in any science, so this is just the feeling that I get from my friends who are pre-med. Best of luck with your decision!
