Premed majors: Med School acceptance

On occasion, I encounter references to med school acceptance rates for pre med majors, is there a list of colleges with respective medical school acceptance rates. Such as Harvard 95% med school acceptance for Molecular and Cell Biology majors.

Thank you

There is no “premed” major. To go to med school you can major in ANYTHING. But if you degree in philosophy or classics, you need to make sure to take enough math & science to do well on the MCAT.

Really, the major doesn’t matter a whole lot. As long as you get all the reqs. and ECs you should be good to go.

Impossible.

Correlation is not causation. Glad you’ll be a doc rather than a statistician.

This type of stats if exist should not influence decision of choosing major. Major(s)/minor(s) are chosen in area of interests.

In general, med school acceptance rates are not useful. First, you have to control for the quality of students. Second, different schools have different methods of calculating the acceptance rates so it’s difficult to compare numbers between schools.

A more useful stat is the percentage of acceptances based on GPA and MCAT. That will give you a better idea on what you need to shoot for to give yourself the best odds. ;)
