Premed/molecular Bio.

Hey. My name is Gregory and I am currently attending Santa Barbara City College doing the 'Honors-Social sciencs/humanities' program.I got admitted to michigan, pittsburgh, and ucr. however, i decided that i did not want to leave out of state and just attend a more prestigious uc like ucla or berkeley. i have always wanted to go to berkeley, but for some reason, i am forgetting why i want to attend. i am curious, i am looking at the pre-med/mcb programs at ucla/berkeley and comparing each program. i have no idea, ucla's program looks amazing, but i have never been really fond of ucla (doesn't seem intellectualy stimulating). and berkeley's program seems somewhat boring (too structured or something). anyways, my goal is to become a doctor, obviously. and i would love to hear some input about the pro's/con's about each school and it's program, and which university you would pick and why. thanks

I would go to Berkley if I were you--mostly because of prestige.

I am currently a molecular and cell biology major at Berkeley. Berkeley is probably not the best place to apply to med school from due to the notorious grade deflation. The competition for med school is fierce, but so far it has been an enjoyable experience. Dispite the fierce competition, I have had several chances to do small research projects and attend numerous seminars with leading berkeley researchers. I would highly reccommend Berkeley if you are truly interested in Biology, but if you are worried about your GPA for med school try somewhere else.
