Premed? What if I change my mind?

I’m a sophomore in HS. I’m interested in radiology and would like to explore that path. It sounds like I can completed a premed track at most colleges. Do students then major in Biology, or something similar for premed? And, if I change my mind along the way, and suggestions for something sort of similar?

You can major in anything you want to major in to apply to medical school…you just have to be sure to take the required courses for medical school admission.

Many students don’t choose a major until sometime during their sophomore year in college. At this point, you are in 10th grade and you could change your mind many times.

Also, keep in mind that choosing one specialty of interest for medical school isn’t the best plan.

Have you explored other careers related to radiology? Radiology technicians and ultrasound technicians are two fields you might want to look into. They don’t require years and years of expensive schooling.

If thinking at all about med school, major in what you like and could help you for Plan B because most who apply to med school don’t get in causing Plan B to become the route they follow.

As stated before, med schools don’t care what you major in, so that’s not a factor. You just need the pre-req classes and to do well with GPA/MCAT.

And yes, use google a little bit to see what types of radiology jobs are out there. Plenty of students from my school go to community college to get trained for various things and enjoy what they are doing. It’s relatively little investment for jobs they like. Others go to med school and enjoy what they do too, so this isn’t a diss on med school - it’s just repeating a suggestion to be sure you select what you like/want for your life.

Why are you are interested in radiology? Knowing what interests you about this career field would make it easier for us to suggest other things that are similar in the ways that are important for you. What do you like about it?

Closing thread. Gets confusing when 2 people share an account.
