premed workload

How intense is the workload for premed students, I know Holy Cross is famous for its heavy workload but is it almost impossible to get the required grades to go to medical school with all of the work they give? I'm prepared to work as hard as I have to to get the best grades possible but i am afraid my best may not suffice from some of the horror stories I've heard.

Also, what would you say about the grade inflation/deflation there, especially in that program?

I can only give you a mom's perspective. D is a freshman pre-med at HC. She took pre-med requirements intro to chem and calculus her 1st semester, along with 2 other courses. Her pre-med classes were, by far, the most intense. She worked very hard in her chem class and was NOT pleased with her final grade. This semester she has organic chem I and 2nd semester of calculus. She is working even harder. She has changed strategies for studying for chem and hopes it will pay off. She is studying far more than she ever has. I'm not sure that she was prepared for the demands of this program, but she seems to be adapting.

Good luck in whatever path you decide to take!

At another Patriot League companion school, I have watched my D battle her way through premed. molecular biology major.GPA is "only"3.3. great internships doing research last two summers. just now starting MCAT review(usually a great standardized test taker but MCAT is the MCAT. Probably going to do a post bac program before applying to med school to get GPA up. BUT I believe a technical background in today's world is an advantage even if she doesn't ultimately do the med school thing. I am sure she could ace the LSAT or decide to work in a lab. Being a science major opens doors that other majors do not especially for a young women. BUT it was hard. Number of sobbing calls about how she was going to flunk out. But she is graduating this year and couldn't be prouder where ever path takes her next
