Holy Cross Workload???

Hello, I'm new here, i just got accepted to College of the Holy Cross and I've heard their workload is pretty tough (im doing premed). So, does anyone know how tough it actually is, and does anyone know how bad they weed out premed students?

Thanks in advance

I think PreMed is tough at all of the top schools. The course material itself is tough and typically the Premed Program attracts the best and brightest students. Holy Cross will not weed you out but the PreMed Program may not give you a strong recommendation letter if they do not feel like you would make a strong candidate which will lessen your chances of acceptance.

From what I hear from my dad, the pre-med program is a bit harder work-wise than many other majors, but if you work as hard as possible, it is not too difficult to do well.

All I know is from word of mouth, so take it for what it is worth. Holy Cross in general is known for a high work load, however they are also known for a high graduation rate. To me this means you can expect to work hard when you are there, but there must be a good support staff and interested professors. This does not seem like a negative to me.

Pre-Med is known for being an especially difficult major. There is no getting around this. You are in for a tough time, but the school that accepted you believes you are up to the task. Congratulations, Holy Cross has a very good reputation of educating future doctors.

The only real advice I have for you is to audit Organic Chemistry before taking it for a grade. My understanding is that many students do this for this tough course. Organic Chemistry is often considered the make or break course in Pre-Med.

It is definitely difficult, but do-able. I am in the pre-med program right now (btw, it is not a major…just a concentration). Organic Chemistry is certainly hard, but the faculty and your peers are more than willing to help you out, plus you only take 4 courses per semester, which lessens the stress!

Oh, and they don’t make people drop the pre-med concentration.
