Prep Schools College Matriculation

Here is a list of the top ten most popular colleges for graduates of the Ten Schools Admissions Organization which includes the following: Hotchkiss, Taft, St. Paul’s, Deerfield, Hill, Lawrenceville, Andover, Choate, Exeter, and Loomis Chaffee. The average annual number of matriculates was taken from each school based on matriculation information provided by school websites, catalogues, and boardingschoolreview.com. To be included in the master list for the totals, a given secondary school had to matriculate at least 3 students to the listed colleges, so actually a greater number of students annually enroll in the below colleges than listed.

U Pennsylvania (65)

Georgetown (65)

Harvard (64)

Brown (59)

Cornell (57)

Yale (55)

Middlebury (40)

Princeton (37)

Columbia (35)

The next ten most popular colleges and universities are the following (in alphabetical order): Boston College, Boston U, Dartmouth, Duke, George Washington U, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Trinity College, Tufts, and U Virginia.

Any thoughts?

P.S. There are many outstanding boarding schools besides the those in TSAO (like Groton, Thacher, Milton, Middlesex, Cate, Concord Academy, Peddie, etc.) but this is just a sampling. Only the most recent data available was used. If tied the school with the higher U.S. News and World Report ranking was chosen.

My little footnote to #2: A lot of Exonians may go to Georgetown, but in recent years a high number have been transferring out in exasperation and misery. Weird but true fact.

I'd have to cross-reference the ah, confidential documents in the CCO to check exeter's side of the story for these #s... which I have copies of for some of those schools... hmm.

cosmo - why have they been unhappy at Georgetown? My d is interested
in applying there eventually. just wondering.

princeton costs more than harvard now i heard?
also curious why princeton only gets about half of harvard, any thoughts?

eiffel-- no idea why, I'd just heard that recently a lot had been transferring out! I think it was something about the social scene, was the explanation. But don't take that as condemnation of the school; might just be a weird anomaly.

davida1, it would really be nice to know how many on this list are legacies, URM, and athletic hooks. In addition, how many are admitted by way of ED and EA
I know that Penn fills a large portion with ED apps as well as others.
Any thoughts?

Another interesting number would be.............compare med school aacceptances from top uni's versus top LAC's from these bs college matrics. I'm guessing greater success from the LAC's. What do you think?

Thanks for your reply, Cozmo. Georgetown just seems like such a great
place to go to school. I think my d will keep it on her list.

The objections definitely seemed like something that would be sorted out with an overnight visit.
