Preparation for MCAT...

Hi, I just wondered since english is such an important component of the MCAT/application and the interview (reason why humanities majors do so well med school application), I would really appreciate if current students who went through the process can build up a solid reading list for prospective applicants.

I personally like reading quality magazines for preparation. So i'll start the list.

Good magazines:

-Natural History
-The New Yorker

Good books:
- Democracy in America (Tocqueville)
- Thoreau essays
- Dragons of Eden (Carl Sagan, on neuroscience and evolution)
- Feynman lectures (not really quality literature, but a classic physics set)
- H. L. Mencken essays and books
...

Can you help me complete this list?

Thanks.

The only magazine I can really remember Kaplan recommending was the Economist. I think they may have also given the green light to the New Yorker as well, but I can’t be sure. It was a while ago.

I think the papers in any scientific journal would also be helpful. Nature and the like.
