Hi,
My son is 10th and he hasn’t stated pre-cal yet.
He wants to take SAT math 2c in May or June next year in his 11th.
My question is that does he need extra study or help other than the regular math course in his grade at school
to cover mathematics parts for test?
Yes, he definitely needs extra study and help. It is a super hard test. Background: My daughters has always gotten As in math and did not have to do any studying to get a 5 on AP Calc BC as a junior. However, she needed a tutor and lots and lots and lots of studying to get an 800 on math level 2. Good luck!
I would still suggest getting a study book like Barron’s to actually get a feel of what the test questions and procedures are like. I took the SAT Math II as a senior (November 2016). I found it a lot easier than I thought, but the test was still difficult in that you need to know how to solve problems with overlapping topics. I was in Pre-Cal my junior year, and I figured I’d wait until the school year was over since my teacher really didn’t teach the subject well at all. I self-studied, and I found my Barron’s study guide to be extremely helpful because they provided good explanations and had a short, but good content to the math topics.
Thanks a lot.
I think so and the math teachers in his school seem they don’t talk about SAT Math 2.
He would like to apply for paychology and think taking the test make him more acceptable to
some good schools.
I also recommend getting a Pre-Cal handbook like Pre-Calculus for Dummies in-case he needs to learn topics for the Math 2 that aren’t covered in his classes.
I encountered topics on the Math 2 that are never going to be in my Pre-Cal classes that I’m taking right now (Matrices, Fibonacci sequence, Polar Coordinates), but I luckily knew those by test day because I self-studied Pre-Cal.
