Prepare for the SAT like an athlete

Here's my plan for my kid for the day before/day of the SAT test.

Get plenty of sleep- go to sleep early the night before

Carbo the night before, just like you would if you were running a race

Wake up earlier than you have to

Have a breakfast with protein (brain food)

Do some exercise- walk or run (don't need much - just enough to get the blood flowing - there was a study which compared test grades for kids who took a test after gym class versus those who didn't take take gym- the ones who had gym class got better grades after controlling for all factors)

Then do some warm up practice problems so that the first time you do a test question isn't a time that counts

Bring a snack and a drink for a break

Lots of luck on the June 5 date!

Good luck dude. Sounds like a plan. I think jumping rope is the best way to do some light exercise that gets the blood flowing.

Overall I like your plan … I do not know your kid and everyone is different but I would make two suggested changes. For me and my kids trying to minimize nerves and pressure is important … with that in mind.

 • I am not a big fan of #1 … I would lay there staring at the ceiling getting nervous … I would have my kid go to a 7:30 movie or rent a Netflix or something to keep them busy and relax … and get to bed at a reasonable time.
 • I hate #6 … the SAT is a long mental grid which is tough to concentrate all the way through … this plan just makes the day longer. I’d have my child do what they currently do big tests … if it is do practice problems go for it … if it is a few minutes of yoga that is good also.

SATs are important but I think changing a lot of things for the test can backfire … your child has taken big tests, been in big games or performances … use the same prep that has worked so far

so, did anyone else use my plan? My son (who just finished his freshman year at college) did it one time he took the SATs and refused to do it again. But that time he got his highest math score ever.

Don’t forget to study for at least 10,000 hours!

^ Nice ;)

<10>

lols i actually overslept due to hard time falling asleep
good thing the test starts a little later than i thought it would x]

My plan:

Cram until 2am the night before.
Wake up at 7:40am and eat breakfast in the car
Take the test :)

bump for the Oct test

Thanks lady! I needed something like this.

Any advice for a few days before the test? Is it wise to cram and do lots of practice questions? Or is it better to slow down my pace and go through previous wrong questions? I have a tendency to stress out (typical Asian habit; I think it’s in my genes) a week or two before a big test and I feel all guilty if I don’t overwork myself. Any suggestions?
