Preparing for a Scholarship interview

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers for my interview coming up in a few weeks.
It’s extremely important as this scholarship would cover my entire cost of college for four years.
I honestly don’t know what to expect and I am extremely nervous!

If you had to write essays for this scholarship, be familiar with your essays. My son has been to 3 interviews and everyone asked him about his essays. Be genuine and positive. Be careful not to speak poorly about your HS or peers that attend there. One question my son was asked was " if we went to your HS what would the other students say about you? Good luck.

I did not write the advice I am posting, but I believe it was excellent, from a very knowledgeable man who posts often on the Gates Millennium Scholarship page. It was for a College interview, but I thought you could apply it too.

“The two basic themes are likely to be: 1) Why us? and 2) Why you? For theme one, you need to have some specifics about unique features at this college that appeal to you. For theme two, you need to articulate what you will add to the campus community. Prepare notes for each theme. Your strategy is to provide evidence that you and the college are a great match for each other.”

I would suggest you develop some specific stories to tell about yourself that SHOW the characteristics that you believe are important to win this scholarship.

Good luck!

Thank you! @carolinamom2boys very interesting way to look at it…thanks! @NJRoadie

any last advice before my interview?!

Smile when you are talking, it comes thru in your voice.
Don’t be afraid to pause for a moment or two to think before you answer. Silence is never as long as you think it is
Have a quiet room with no distractions (put DOWN YOUR PHONE) and just focus.

Good luck!
