Prepeare for Critical Reading

Hi,
I dont live in USA,but i am going to admit in US colleges. I have a 2 years to prepare for SAT exam.My math and grammar skils are good enouth, but my vocabulary isnt good.when i start to take a Critical reading test i understand only 20 percent of words.Have you any advise how i can to increase my vocabulary and which books i should read.

I assume you are a non-Native speaker. I advise you:

  1. Memorize as much vocab words as possible. Try to get 2000-3000. These WILL HELP YOU
  2. Read hard level text. For example magazines:
    New Yorker
    The Economist
    New York Times

Books like:
Ulysses
Catcher in the Rye
1984

Just read as much as possible to practice your English. Try to use the vocab words in your writing so you can remember.

thank you!

drcharisma is right.
The best way is to read hard books. An obvious indicator that you are reading a difficult book is if it has sex in it. Funny, but true.
Since you have so much time it could be practical to memorise the Barron 3500. If you are willing to spend the bucks, I’d advise you to take down DH first then progress onto the Barron 3500. Spend 30-60 minutes a day, 3-5 minutes a word, link the word with an exaggerated image to help with memorising. Create flashcards for the words you don’t know as you go along. Revise your flashcards every sunday. After you’re done, input the words onto your computer, scramble them and look through them. Keep doing this until your test date.
Memorising vocab is a long and arduous journey, never, ever give up. Remember that its usefulness is way beyond the SAT. It will help with conversations, public speaking, acquainting with people, flowering your essays, your uni and job interviews… the list goes on and on.
