preppy colleges in New England for a B+ student?

Wow. Just wow. You really ought to stay close to home where all the people care about getting an education and are cultured. No need to move south. Stick around the good part of the country. Go ahead and write all about how awful the south is in your essays for the northern schools - they will love it and give you extra points for realizing how much better your area of the country is than other ones. You really do have it all figured out.

Thank goodness he lived to tell. Really miraculous that he was able to learn anything at all at a school below the Mason-Dixon line. He’s probably still grateful that he escaped Louisiana intact.

I’m truly sorry that you are offended but I did not mean to come off as rude.I know that there is some great schools in the South but after speaking to a few different people I honestly do not know if I would be happy there. My dad obviously loved Tulane or he didn’t apply but I meant that as I’m not sure how he would feel about it for me.I’m not really a city person and would probably do better at a smaller school.I keep hearing these opposing viewpoints that it is a wonderful place to go to college than I read about the crazy sororities and football and it turns me off.I am sorry and I will try to be more open minded.

Re #20: This student is simply trying to make an important decision as best as she can with the beliefs she has acquired as of this point. Explaining why those beliefs may be misguided could be appropriate and helpful. But a sarcastic attack serves to hinder rather than advance meaningful communication.

OP, after reading your two extended rants against an entire region of the country, my immediate thoughts were similar to gnocci’s. However, I will attempt to write something helpful. I suggest you attend college in the south. Would serve two purposes: 1) have a superb academic experience and 2) expand your cultural horizons beyond your current family-imposed shell.

@beaches2734 , ouch re: PC! Is your mom actually GOING to college with you? I hope not… so forge your own path and make your own decisions. You are not your mother. Your mother is not you. PC is a wonderful school. Agree, some of the surrounding neighborhood is not the best. But, Let’s Go Friars!!

Have you looked at Skidmore?
