thank you thank you @bridgenail
the most important and valuable post I have ever read her at CC !
@bridgenail, we were in the same boat as you, We found this site in fall of senior year. We did visits to schools that were not right for her, Isat in on visits, no sample lessons until she had her top 3 acceptances, no summer programs. Still she got into the perfect school and teacher for her. There are many paths and voice is once again different from instruments. But it, too, has gotten more competitive in the last few years so she may not have had the same results now and YMMV.
In classical voice no amount of expensive prescreens, over priced summer programs or professional applications assistance can trump talent, hard work, intense focus and old fashioned serendipity. It’s a long haul, a lot can and will happen between undergrad college applications and professional auditions. (about eight to ten years from now #:-S ) The market for classical singers will change, your student will change and I promise you much of this will not matter. Now and later it’s still about talent, performance, and the hard work your student has to do to attain a level of excellence.
I came across this article about Jazz Auditions and Scholarships in another topic here on CC. I found it helpful for my D even though vocalists are not mentioned. http://www.music.ucla.edu/files/acrobatfiles/music/Home%20page/Getting_the_Big_scholarship_Dyas_101515.pdf
