Prescreens and applications

So if i am to understand it, only otterbein will let you submit the prescreen without first applying to the school itself? I feel like maybe coastal Carolina might let you not apply before sending prescreen but will have to look that up again…so we submit prescreen videos & have to first apply?? That makes no sense since if my D doesn’t pass the prescreen she won’t be interested in the school for another major …so that application and fee would be a waste of time… If she applies & doesn’t pass prescreen do we just withdraw the application then that she submitted for general admission?

There are fees for the auditions too. Really that’s just the way the system works. If she’s considering MIchigan you must be academically qualified to even pass they’re prescreen.

Yes @Ducky312 I saw a few audition fees. I was just thinking it’s sorta a waste of everyone’s time , the school’s admissions dept and mine, if my D doesn’t pass prescreen to have to apply etc and then withdraw the app. she’s not applying @ Michigan & only has 3 prescreen schools plus Wagner which has to invite you to audition after you apply. I guess she’ll just start the application for the ones other then otterbein and wait to get prescreen results before she goes through the entire app process like sending test scores etc

@theaterwork I feel like my child pre screened and applied at the same time. Once the prescreens were passed we set up the auditions and then we heard about acceptances after auditions anytime from February- April 15. Fortunately my child passed 4 prescreens which was a big boost. What 3 are you applying to for prescreens?

Shenandoah, otterbein & Coastsl Carolina

You will find that some schools hope that you will still consider their school for a different major even if you don’t get accepted to their MT programs (or even pass their pre-screen). So they want you to apply and will continue to communicate with you even if you are turned down either in the prescreen or audition process.

Yeah @vvnstar I figured they would try to suck you in another way if the MT thing doesn’t work out lol. I know they’re getting an app fee normally so I guess for them it’s not that much extra work but it is for us! Just more to keep track of. Loving that Otterbein doesn’t make you do that.
When she applies then we can just start the application process right? Like we don’t have to have test scores & everything sent before we schedule audition right? I mean she’s still taking one more round of testing in Sept…

We had no trouble scheduling auditions once apps were started (non prescreen schools obviously) even though D was planning another ACT (she had a number she wanted to hit)

I liked the schools that asked you if you wanted to be considered for something else if BFA didn’t work- then you could choose. But colleges will do it their own way…

@theaterwork You should be able to send test scores in later with no problem, especially if she is taking them in September. That will still give you plenty of time to get them to the schools sometime in October. If she is in line for academic scholarships, check deadlines. It seems to me the Cincinnatus Scholarship at CCM had to have some stuff in by November, and I think a few other schools did as well. So just something to keep an eye on.
The benefit of getting the application in is usually as soon as it is received and they have you in the system, you should be able to schedule your audition. Most schools will let you do that even if they are waiting on a piece (like test scores).
