President Bush's FY 2009 Budget

I don't know if i should post this here or in the Cafe. I came across this this morning and thought I would post it. I hope this will not affect any (many) of my fellow CCers. http://budget.senate.gov/democratic/documents/2008/bushfy2009budgetbriefanalysis020508.pdf

Finally, the budget recalls capital for the Perkins loans. The Perkins program is a federal revolving loan program. Institutions use the funds to provide low-interest loans to low-income students as part of their aid packages. Congress rejected this cut last year when it had the opportunity to redirect the funding in other ways. This will cost borrowers $4.2 billion over five years and $7.2 billion over ten years.

He can't be gone from office soon enough. What an 8-year nightmare...

Hmm - My daughter has a Perkins in her financial aid award - - wonder if it will be forthcoming. I guess they would change it to a Stafford if not. It is only for $400 so we'll survive either away.

This happens every year. Bush proposes reductions in the Perkins program, Congress puts the funds back in, and Bush signs the bill. I wouldn't worry about it.
