[quote]
I have never seen law school as being about job security, he said, calling the criticism of recent months unfair. What we were taught is education is about opportunity, not about job security.

That is a fine point. I know that my cousin works for the federal government as a law enforcement officer and while his background isn’t in law, the majority of his fellow agents have JDs. The reason being is that their legal education prepares them to do their job effectively. My cousin does have an advanced degree, as do nearly all of his non-former military coworkers.

I just cannot comprehend spending $100,000 to go get a job that pays $50,000-$60,000.

What I find ironic is that while law degrees - even from top law schools - may not be ‘about job security’, law schools are themselves indisputable bastions of job security by virtue of employing legions of professors who are tenured and therefore effectively unfireable except in the most extreme cases (i.e. you’re caught stealing from the school or refuse to teach assigned classes).
