My friend is in the same boat, waitlisted after receiving a letter that he was in the top 5%. Thats pretty misleading on the part of Bucknell, how did they not anticipate that a bunch of 17 and 18 year olds who are about as anxious as ever would interpret that letter as a likely. Seems like a pretty weak answer that eagles got back, my friend called and they something about accepting too many early decision applicants, but even so how does the "top 5%" of your applicant pool not get in, unless you accept 95+% of your freshman class through ED. I got waitlisted too, but at least I wasn't put through the agony that you guys were, they really owe everyone who got screwed an apology, and perhaps a pity acceptance.

Thanks for the understanding mwalsh64.

So update...my friend called and they told him the same thing. We dont get how you don't accept somebody if they're in the top 5% of your applicant pool...

Actually they told him they'd really like to have him and sent him a decision card asking if he'd like to be put on the waitlist, and what college he's likely to attend.

Now, he's a quiet fella, sorta reserved. But he still put "Anywhere but here"

Does our decision for the scholars program come with our financial statement?

My S was wait listed as well. I really feel for all of you after reading what Bucknell did to those top 5 per centers. The Admissions Director should be fired for alienating his potentially "best customers"!

To those of you who received a letter saying that their applications qualified them for the presidential fellows program, and then were waitlisted, I am so sorry that happened. I am as confused as you must feel and I hope that this never happens again at Bucknell.

I asked my husband, whose father worked in admissions at another college how this could happen. He said that it is possible, the letter about qualifying for the presidential program, was generated from the financial aid department, unbeknownst to the decisions of the admissions department. So the letter was probably sent, and this is the 1st year for the presidential program I think, to inform a student of their eligibility for the program. The letter may have even been generated before the final decisions were made.

Still, I agree with all that the letter should have been worded better, or only sent to those who were gaining admission. My apologies to all of you.
