<p>Has anyone else been nominated/certified by their school for the Presidential Freedom Scholarship? A local organization agreed to be the matching $500 sponsor for my son, so his high school principal is now sending in the certification paperwork (100+ hours community service in a single project in the past 12 months). I am curious if anyone here has ever received this scholarship and was wondering how everything went. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!</p>
<p>My daughter was awarded it last year (she graduated 6/05). I believe she applied for it in May and in August she received a congratulatory letter from President Bush, a Certificate signed by our Senator Barbara Boxer along with a lapel pin, and instructions on how to receive the money. Proof of enrollment is accepted by a copy of the tuition bill or class schedule or housing assignment. She had the option to receive it in either the Fall "05, the Spring '06 or Fall '06. The check will be made out to both her and the college.</p>
