Presidential Scholarship?

Ok I know that you need 2250 SAT minimum and 4.0 GPA but my question is are those the only factors that go into determining if you get the Presidential Scholarship? Is the essay at all taken into account? or ECs?

I assume that they do consider the essay and ECs since they ask you to list them. (maybe this is not as important for general admission, but more so for the honors programs and scholarships).

You do not always need a 2250 SAT to get a Presidential scholarship. I think they weight the M and CR more than the W.

The stated criteria says you MUST have minimum 2250 SAT or 35 ACT. and an A grade point average. It seems odd that 1 B over 4 years would disqualify someone.

With AP courses a student could get a couple of B’s and still have an A grade point average

Any B would drop the only score they count (Unweighted GPA) wouldn’t it???

bgmargate my son got a Presidential scholarship and he did not have a 2250. When determining scholarships/honors program placement they probably view the transcript more holistically than what is written but they need to give parameters so people know what to strive for. It also probably depends on the school; I would guess that Engineering assigns a higher value to math scores than SAS, for example.

Regarding GPA: my son reported his weighted GPA (which was very high).

It also depends on the applicant pool. Maybe this year, no one will get a Presidential with an SAT under 2300. You just never know.

Thx rualum, Rutgers should change the written criteria on their website. If you read it, it leaves no doubt that you need 2250. Obviously thats wrong. There could be high quality kids out there that don’t apply based on that stated requirement.

I don’t think you need to apply for the school scholarships, you just need to write the essay to be considered. I’m pretty sure it says that somewhere. My son was offered scholarships to each school he applied to. He had to apply for the honors program.

Because of the stated criteria, we did not think he would get a Presidential scholarship, but he wrote the essay anyway, because there were other scholarships available.
