Prestige of W&M

How is W&M seen by medical schools, law schools, and wall street?

Is it comparable to schools such as tufts, emory, brandeis, vandy, uva, unc?

Yes. It is comparable, very good, but not HYP. Probably would have the best reputation in law.

"Is it comparable to schools such as tufts, emory, brandeis, vandy, uva, unc?"

W & M is regarded very highly with regards to grad school. It is not an Ivy school but is very close.

W&M is very underrated on CC and very well respected in the real world. Peers would be Davidson, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Brown, Haverford, and Chicago. Best law and med school acceptance rate in Virginia.

doctorb how would you compare W&M to Wash & Lee? Just curious.

Associated with Georgetown, Brown, and Chicago? That's exaggerating it a bit.

Academics would be equal. W&M more liberal politically. W&L more Greek. Lexington is more outdoor focused but also more isolated. Both are beautiful campuses. W&M not as small (5500 vs 1800). Prestige would be equal. Both are great schools.

Not exaggerated at all. Most guidebooks(Fiske, Insider, Prole, Barrons et al.) say the schools are very similar. Only US News is the outlier and we all know how insightful that rag is. A friend of mine's daughter is going to Chicago after being rejected by W&M.

And my friend got rejected from SUNY Stony Brook and got into Princeton. Whats your point mate?

^Not SBU but Princeton? Talk about an odd mix.

U.S. News can't really account for regional variations in prestige. W&M is more prestigious in the South (and especially in Virginia) than elsewhere.

W&M definitely has prestige... don't worry about that when deciding.
