On a journey towards earning a professional (PhD, MD) degree in the field of biomedical engineering....what might a prospecting undergraduate student consider? Would attending a research cultured state school like Pitt vs an ivy league or equivalent such as MIT hinder the journey towards a terminal degree? How about considering no cost scholarships?

Medical school is expensive, so keeping undergraduate cost and debt down is of high priority for pre-meds.

Note also the biomedical engineering job and career prospects are not as good as other engineering at the bachelor’s degree level, so keeping debt down is a priority if you choose not to medical school or do not get into any (or do not get into any that have a reasonable price for you).

The Ivy League schools should not be automatically assumed to be top schools in engineering.

“Med school is expensive” I hear that!
I’m wondering if there would be a significant difference in the number of students admitted to top tier medical programs whose undergrad education was MIT vs Pitt.

…anyone wanna help me research
lol

The conventional wisdom is that what matters most in med school admissions is (1) GPA & MCAT scores, and (2) personal qualities expressed in the interview. What college you attend makes little difference after controlling for those factors (with perhaps some adjustment for grade inflation/deflation).
