Prestigious undergrad and grad schools that are big on affirmative action?

LMAO. Nice.

No one is LOLing here.

So you’ll be perfectly happy with the fact that you will live under a shadow “he achieved this only because of the color of his skin” for the rest of your life? (whether truly deserved or not?)

Affirmative action is a double edged sword. It may help you get into the schools you want, but from the beginning you’re being judged on a double standard, and that’s not something you’ll be enjoying.

I always find it silly to let yourself be beaten down by such comments.

Anyways, remember that AA just gets your foot in the door. It ain’t a free ride.

Yea, I know, but it’s not like I’m prancing around campus with a mexican Flag. I’m going to definitely use it as a focal points on essays, but I’m not going to brag about it if I get into the school. Also , I don’t really look Mexican, so none will be the better :)

I will be all too happy to oblige and complain about how I suffer disadvantages in the elite admissions process because of the color of my skin, if only to keep you busy apologizing to those poor ‘others’

Three cheers for people who are Mexican, but do not look it or have a last name that resembles it!

I don’t know about graduate schools, but professional schools are known to battle each other fiercely for the top URM students.

ilovebagels, I’d be careful not to sound as if you are downplaying challenges faced by minorities. There is no doubt that these challenges are sometimes exaggerated, but they do, nevertheless, exist.

People of all ethnic backgrounds face challenges.

As one of Chinese descent, I think Chinese kids from working class, immigrant families are doing it wrong. Hard work is pointless if it doesn’t get you were you deserve to be. We need a charismatic, unselfish leader who will gather hoards of Asian-American followers together–Chinese, Koreans, Filipinos, Thais, you name it–and whine “THAT’S RACIST” on our behalf. I look forward to that day with glee.
